A female student from Chuka University on Sunday, June 27, 2021, committed suicide after jumping from on top of a building withing the institution.
Source indicated that the student jumped to her death from on top of the university’s Science Complex building after a disagreement with her boyfriend. Her name was yet to be made public officially.
The altercation was allegedly prompted by claims of infidelity – withe girl accusing the boyfriend of cheating on her with another school girl.
The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital after emergency service providers administering first aid in an attempt to save her life.
She was declared dead at the hospital.
The incident comes just weeks after another female student died at her university hostel after being stubbed by an alleged boyfriend. Celestine Muthengei, a second-year-student at Mt Kenya University (MKU) was killed on June 14.
She was studying Community Development in the Institution, was stabbed severally on various parts of her body before the suspect disappeared.
Meanwhile, cases of suicide are on the rise in the country. The Ministry of Health launched the Kenya Mental Health Action Plan (2021-2025), to help those in need.
