A disturbing picture showing three helpless pupils – aged below 10 years – attracted widespread condemnation on September 1, among Kenyans, with many calling for the prosecution of the teachers involved.
Kenyans felt that the teachers had crossed the acceptable punishment boundary by tying children to a tree like criminals or animals.
Mwanahabari.co.ke has learned that officers from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Interior visited the school after Kenyans registered complaints.
Nyahururu sub-county deputy county commissioner Moses Muroki, Teacher Service Commission (TSC) officials visited the school and interrogated the teachers with regards to the matter.
Also present were officials from the Director of Criminal Investigation and Children Protection Unit.
I has emerged that teachers are increasingly using other form of punishment in schools after caning was banned a few years ago – although Education CS George Magoha had made verbal pronouncements reintroducing caning in schools.
