Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has had a change of heart, and is now strongly supporting the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill 2021.

In a joint statement, Mudavadi, alongside other One Kenya Alliance (OKA) leaders; Moses Wetang’ula, Kalonzo Musyoka and Gideon Moi said they collectively support the bill currently on the floor of the National Assembly.

OKA team was previously divided into two over the bill with one team led by ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula of Ford Kenya leaning towards DP William Ruto in opposing the bill.

On the other hand, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and his KANU counterpart Gideon Moi joined the government’s side in supporting the bill.

The sudden change of heart from the Amani National Congress boss has clearly shown where Musalia’s heart rests – after a tumultuous week.

The pronouncement comes at a time when the political scene is littered with rumours alleging that Mudavadi and Wetang’ula had received formal invitation from UDA party leader DP William Ruto for a coalition talk meeting.

A firm Mudavadi has denied the rumours – and reiterated his stand on cementing OKA as a formidable force in the August 9, 2022 elections.

OKA alliance said: “The One Kenya Alliance supports the strengthening of Coalitions hence supports the legislation of Coalition Parties.”

Noting: “We must all endeavour to put in place an electoral process and system that is fair, just, verifiable and transparent.”

“We call upon Members of Parliament to exercise sobriety and restraint in the ongoing debate and urge them to shun any short term partisan and parochial interests and consider the interests of the Kenyan people first.”
