Report

A family in Maliku in Katulani district, Kitui County is mourning the murder of their 17-year-old son.

The deceased has been identified as Syengo Nyamai, who was a Form Two student.

The late Nyamai had reportedly won some Sh200,000 in a football bet.

Police said that the body of the teenager was discovered in a thicket, just  few kilometres from his parent’s home.

According to the family, he had his eyes gouged out, a broken right hand, and some head injuries.

The student, who used his neighbour’s personal details to register his mobile phone sim card, had kept his Sh200,000 winnings a secret from his family.

Nyamai won the money recently after he placed a bet in the Carabao Cup final that saw Manchester United beat Newcastle United.

The deceased is said to have used a neighbour’s national identity card to register a Safaricom Sim card.

He had not told the family that he had won Sh200,000.

The student had used a neighbour’s ID to register his sim card because he had not attained the age of acquiring his own national ID card, said the family.

He had also asked his parent to move him to a boarding school, and was even ready to pay the school fees himself.

According to the family, he did not explain to them how we was going to pay the higher school fees.
