Christine Ambani: Family of murder suspect blame police for releasing him

The family of Innocent Kalio are blaming the police for their son’s latest activities, which involve the alleged murder of  university student Christine Ambani.

According to Kalio’s father, Mzee Apollo, his delinquent son had been implicated in the murder of his elder brother, sister-in-law and their young child earlier this year.

Reports indicate that Kalio was arrested – but was released from custody under unclear circumstances – and without the family’s knowledge.

Mzee Apollo said he was surprised to see his son trending in the news last week – having been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of a female university student.

I was shocked to see my son on TV

According to Apollo, he knew all along that his troublesome son was in police custody – having been picked up by detectives in connection with the family murders he allegedly committed on January 30.

“I was surprised to see him on TV. Being one of the witnesses in his case where he is suspected to have killed three of his relatives, I knew he was in custody awaiting trial,” Apollo Standard.

Kalio had been linked to a suspicious fire incident that claimed the life of his elder brother Eugene, his wife Miriam Echesa and their one-year-old son in Shikalame village in Kakamega county.

Police investigations at the time established that someone had poured petrol around the Eugene’s house before setting it on fire. The three family members who were in the house died in the flames.

I want justice

Apollo now wants the police to explain the circumstances under which his son was released.

“I want justice for my dead son, wife and child,” he said.

Kalio was arrested on Tuesday, July 27 by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Chokaa area. Reports indicate that Kalio and Ambani were in a love relationship.

Kalio is currently in police custody after he was implicated in the brutal murder of Ambani who was a student at Kiriri Women’s University.
