Burnt Range Rover: Family of Missing Businessman Seek Answers

POLICE are still trying to wrap their heads around the disappearance of American citizen Mohamud Bashir who was a structural engineer based in Nairobi.

The 35-year-old American citizen was said to be involved in construction projects in the country through his company Infinity Development Limited where he was the Managing Diretor.

In a shocking puzzle that has left even the police scratching their heads for answers – the businessman’s Range Rover was found burned in the Kibiku area three days after his disappearance – and the shell carted away from the scene of crime.

Sources indicate that the vehicle was burnt and its shell moved just hours after a police officer found the vehicle – and left to alert crime scene officers.

Sources indicate that the perpetrators of the crime may have been trying to wipe out any evidence – which is why they decided to burn down the vehicle and even move it.

Bashir’s lawyer told the media that there were suspicious activities at the Miale lounge where the businessman was last seen. This he said is based on CCTV footage that showed Bashir leaving the lounge at 6:30pm before his vehicle was intercepted by another vehicle.

“There was a traffic snarl-up on the left lane and no vehicles were seen moving from the right side, a clear indication that a vehicle had blocked the road.”

In the video, a group of curious pedestrians can be seen looking towards Bashir’s car – it seems there was some commotion before he was taken away.

There were reports that the businessman had tried to call his wife, but the call was interrupted and his phone switched off …

“You realise in various instances there are a couple of people who are triangulating and they are on mobile telephones and conversations are ongoing and everyone looks quite jittery it looks as though they are watching out waiting for something to happen,” Alibaya Hassan, the businessman’s lawyer said.

The family has since written to the US embassy requesting for assistance in “obtaining information within the custody of the government regarding the whereabouts of Bashir.

They are also seeking to obtain all information regarding the investigations, disappearance of Bashir, obtain an unequivocal written communication from the government confirming whether Bashir is in their custody or not and if the answers are in affirmative they obtain information with regards to the date, time and place where he was apprehended, the location where he is being held, the reasons why he is in custody and being held incommunicado and a detailed exposition as to how his inherent human rights have been protected all this while in custody. ”
