Amason Kingi Kicked out as ODM Chairperson

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi was on Tuesday, August 10, kicked out as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Kilifi chairperson over alleged party disloyalty.

Kingi has since been replaced by Ganze Member of Parliament (MP) Teddy Mwambire – in acting capacity.

ODM leader Raila Odinga confirmed to Standard that indeed Kingi had been shown the door – and was no longer an official of the party.

“Kingi is not the first to run away from ODM, neither is he is the first person to betray me,” Raila told the media.

Adding: “I’m used to being back-stabbed. Kingi has no solutions to the problems facing the Coastal people. I’m thinking power has gone into his head.”

“I was a popular political figure in Kilifi long before Kingi shot to political fame. Had I not appointed him as a minister, probably no one would have known about him politically,” Raila said.

Kingi has since 2018 been pushing for a united political outfit in Coast, and had apparently gone ahead to form a political party dubbed Pamoja Alliance (PAA) on July 30, 2021, something that threatened Raila’s support base in the Coast.
