Embakasi Police Boss Arrested For Shooting Guard at a Lodging

A senior police officer in charge of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Embakasi has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a security guard in Nairobi’s Kayole area.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)  Simon Mutia Mwongela was arrested on Thursday, May 13, 2021 and is currently being held for processing and possible prosecution.

Sources said that the officer had gone to book a room to rest before daybreak when an argument broke out between him and the watchman – at which point Mwongela fired at the guard, killing him.

“He has been arrested and is now under investigation for murder,” said Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai who ordered the arrest.

According to sources, the officer shot the guard at a bar in Kayole at 4.30am. The guard who was inside had declined to open the gate claiming it was late.

“He had gone to the club in the morning and demanded to get in,” a police officer who visited the scene said, “and when he was told it had been closed, he shot the guard on the chest.

The guard who was inside declined to open saying it was late prompting the police boss to shoot once in an attempt to force it open.

The bullet went through and grills and hit the guard in the chest killing him instantly.
