Royal Media Services (RMS) has parted ways with radio presenter and comedian Herman Gakobo Kago, popularly known as Prof Hamo.
Sources from the station told Mwanahabari.co.ke that the comedian who grew into fame from the Churchill Show left the station a few days ago – but the information had remained discreet – and only known to a few individuals.
It is not clear whether Hamo left on his own volition – or he had been fired by the station.
It is, however, possible that the station may have decided to shake hands with the presenter due to the scandal – which is likely to affect the company name and brand.
Hamo’s name was a permanent fixture on the news headlines last week following allegations that he had neglected his girlfriend and fellow comedian Stella Bunei Koitie (Jemutai Chibambe) together with her two children.
The paternity fight spilled to the social media arena with Jemutai accusing Hamo of abandoning his two children. Hamo asked for a paternity test before he could commit a dime towards supporting the children.
The scandal shocked Kenyans media and the entire entertainment scene – with Kenyans offering their support to Jemutai who had offered to sell her Facebook account to put food on the table.
On his part, Hamo denied he had neglected Jemutai and her children noting: “I have children who live with me and others who don’t live with me. I have been providing for my children from day one and there’s no day they went without food or shelter or anything they need.”
On Tuesday, May 11, Jemutai stated that a paternity test had been done and the results confirmed that Hamo indeed was the father of her two children. There are also reports that Hamo has since agreed to pay school fees for his children.
Speaking about the firing, a highly placed source from Citizen told the media thus:
“Hamo no longer works for the station. We, however, wish him the best in all his endeavours.”
Hamo was replaced by Clyde Katiba, who co-hosts the Morning Drive show with Jeff Koinange. Katiba is the Hot FM Deputy Station Manager.
