Daughter Writes Emotional Letter to Dad After Scoring D in KCSE

A 19-year-old girl wrote an emotional note to her father after receiving her 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

“Dad. I didn’t make it. I am sorry I let you down. I know you are hurt, which is why you have not even bothered to call home to ask about my results. I am sorry Dad I have disappointed you.” The girl who sat her KCSE with the 2020 cohort wrote to her dad.

In a Whats App message seen by Mwanahabari.co.ke, the dad who resides in Nairobi wrote back encouraging the distraught daughter.

“You didn’t fail. You did your best and that is what matters. You did your best. People don’t fail, they under-perform.

“You did your best,” wrote the dad who said told this writer that he wanted to support his daughter and just ensure she is safe.

In 2019, a 14-year-old boy from Syumbuni village, Kyeleni Sub Location in Matungulu, Machakos County, committed suicide for allegedly failing to attain 300 marks in the the KCPE examination results. He had scored 170 marks out of 500.

Then Matungulu Sub County Police Commander Kipkemoi Kirui told Standard that the minor had threatened to take his life should he fail to obtain 300 marks.

In the same year – a Form One student at Cardinal Otunga Girls High allegedly committed suicide oafter she was shamed for altering her Geography exam results.

This is why parents are advised to support their children during such times – especially those who may feel that they are failures.

Out of the 747,161 students who sat the exams in 2021, A total of 143,140 students scored university entry grade C+ and above – and who will be directly joining the Universities directly.

The rest are expected to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETS) to gain education and training which provides knowledge and skills for employment. Others can join other colleges.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha while releasing the results at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) offices – ‘Mtihani House’ – in Nairobi said that 893 students scored Grade A.

“All students whose results we are releasing can now join TVETS, colleges and universities. All candidates who will receive their results today have a bright future. We are not going to leave any of the learners behind. The government will support all the learners who sat these exams,” said Magoha while releasing the results on Monday, 10, 2021.

It must be noted that the KCSE exams were done under very difficult circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Form One selection is set to begin on May 28 as the Ministry of Education focuses on continuity of a packed academic calendar.
