Kenyan political commentator Mutahi Ngunyi fired a salvo towards ODM MP Otiende Amollo just hours after the Rarieda lawmaker was ousted from the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) of the National Assembly.
Ngunyi who never shies away from trading political punches online, unleashed a tweet that appeared to castigate Otiende for what he termed as ‘disrespecting’ his party leader Raila Odinga.
“William Ouko is SOLID. An elegant MIND. But he MUST respect BABA, unlike Amollo OTIENDE. Just a POLITE reminder” – read the tweet by Ngunyi.
Mutahi’s tweet attracted mixed reactions among Kenyans. Many sided with Amollo – a man who has exhibited brilliance of mind when it comes to his speech and political mannerism.
Amollo is said to have questioned the creation of 70 new constituencies in the proposed Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2020 – a stand that was deemed to have gone against that of his party ODM.
Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang has replaced the former Ombudsman as the vice chairperson of the committee – a move that has sent shock-waves right into the heart of the party.
An insider who spoke on the matter maintained that Amollo had left on his own volition.
“Otiende Amollo himself walked out of the position which necessitated the move to have Tom take over from him,” the MP from Nyanza told Mwanahabari.co.ke.
The changes are contained in the National Assembly’s supplementary Order Paper for the afternoon sitting on Wednesday.
Many Kenyans reacted to the news of the ouster – and voiced their opinions.
“Very delicate times, Snr: but essentially, the BIG question here is – is it proper in the immediacy, for all our Team Players to interrogate, work on and look at all these things from THE END BACKWARDS? From where I sit, I would answer in the affirmative.” – Raila Odinga’s aide Silas Jakakimba.
“They can remove you from all committees but they cannot match the brilliance.” Sen Mutula Kilonzo JR.
“My friend you think simping will get you anywhere …you will be dropped and forgotten,” Man Pini.
