Journalist Munene: I Built an 8-Bedroom House For Myself While A Bachelor

In 2008, radio personality Munene Nyaga decided to buy a small piece of land in Sabaki Estate somewhere along Mombasa Road.

Fifteen years later, Munene is a happy man – a contented man with a roof over his head.

“A friend questioned my decision to buy land in the middle of nowhere,” Munene told The Nation.

The home has eight bedrooms, a humongous living room, a magnificent bar, a glass house, some six bathrooms and of course a balcony that runs from Nairobi to Kisumu.

“I had many options, including taking up a mortgage, but the cost of mortgage is unbelievably high. I could have bought a house, but none looked exactly like what I wanted,” he told The Nation.

“I sketched the house. I was seated at a restaurant in town; eating fries and fish fingers and the idea occurred to me. Before I knew it, I had a sketch of my dream home. I wanted one with a common balcony,” he adds.

According to Munene, he started building the house with some Sh3 million being his savings.

The house is in Sabaki, off Mombasa Road.

Munene was a bachelor – and so many people wondered what he needed an eight-bedroom house for.

“What are you smoking, Munene?” Many would ask.

Today, the good journalist has enough roof over his head.
