President Uhuru Kenyatta, his cousin Jeff Koinange and flamboyant Mombasa governor Hassan Joho are among the few Kenyans who own a Mercedes G-wagon.
A 2021 Mercedes-Class will cost you some serious damage in the pocket area – something to the tune of Ksh 15 million – with the figure jumping to Ksh 20 million including importation fees.
This is not a car you will find smoking in the Nairobi’s eternal traffic — and that’s because not many people own it – actually.
Uhuru Kenyatta is known to own one and on numerous occasions been seen spinning it.
Sometime in 2020, Uhuru was captured on video driving into Nyayo Stadium – followed crossly by a retinue of cars.
In 2019, Uhuru pulled up to the Holy Family Basilica Church, Nairobi, alone in the same swanky black Mercedes Benz G-Wagon.
Uhuru’s cousin, Citizen TV anchor Jeff Koinange also owns a top of the range Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, also black in colour. Unlike Uhuru’s ride, Jeff’s car is left-hand drive.
It’s a serious ride, actually a beast, said to have cost him a whooping Ksh 14 million.
The four-wheeler vehicle is a fuel guzzler which means it’s not a pet those with shallow pockets would want to keep on the road.
Joho has also been pictured driving a black Mercedes Benz G Wagon – said to have cost him Ksh 17 million – and boasting 001 on the number plate.
The vehicle has a V8 turbo engine with 577 horsepower, and can accelerate from a standstill to 96 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km.
No more V8 for 2022 models
Mercedes-Benz has decided to kill V8 engine for the 2022 models due to supply chain woes. The vehicle in this category include AMG GT, the G-Class and a slew of other AMG-badged performance sedans and SUVs all of which boast a throaty V8.
Reports indicate that only the S-Class and Maybach S-Class vehicles will continue with their V8 engines.
