Hannis Okeyo, 25, and James Mburu Mwangi, 27, are the winners of Ksh 33,995,492 SportPesa Mid-Week Jackpot.
The two gentlemen correctly predicted the outcome of 13 football matches in this week’s Mid-Week Jackpot to win the amount, which will be shared among them equally. Each will take home Ksh16,997,746, before tax.
Mr Okeyo, a fisherman from Kindu Bay in Homabay, said he would first and foremost build his church, Gendia Upperhill in Homabay a guest house, to thank God for helping him win. He has been gaming with SportPesa since its launch in 2014, and plans to continue.
“I am so happy and thankful to God. After my church I will invest in my own Boma. This also allows me to invest in modern fishing gear,” said Mr Okeyo. Before becoming a fisherman, he was a sand harvester and he plans to invest in lorry to build a parallel business.
For Mr Mwangi, a house agent and employee of a Sacco in Thika, said with this money he can now pay dowry for his long-time girlfriend, marry her and start his family.
“I have been playing the jackpot for the last four years and today I am a lucky winner. I will continue to play and targeting the mega jackpot. I have different projects I am working on and this money will assist me in finishing them,” said Mr Mwangi.
Mr Mwangi had placed two bets on the jackpot where one got him the overall prize while the second one he missed by wrong prediction on one match. However, he still got a bonus pay-out of Ksh108,569.
The SportPesa Mid-week Jackpot starts at Ksh10 million and increases each week if no one wins it. Once it is won it resets to Ksh10 million. It is the only progressive jackpot in the market. SportPesa also offers a Mega Jackpot product which starts at Ksh100 million and also increases each week until it is won. The Mega Jackpot currently stands at Ksh176,345,805.
This latest winners mark the fifth time the Mid-Week Jackpot has been won this year. In January Mutuku Muoka won Ksh12,444,454. Later on, in May the jackpot was won twice within few days by Charles Bonzo who took home Ksh11,515,591 and Simon Musembi who got Ksh10 million. In April Maurice Vidija won Ksh21,466,442.
