DCI Kinoti, The Brilliant Kid Who Gave Up Priesthood Dream to Become Cop

BY MWANAHABARI REPORTER

Director of Criminal Investigations – George Kinoti – was meant to become a priest – and not a police officer.

This is no doubt very hard to believe especially because Kinoti name has become the trending topic in the Kenyan media space for two reason; firstly, some Ksh 60 million reward he allegedly owes a few humble Kenyans from Kitui who outed the three terror suspects on Thursday 17, 2021 – and secondly, a four-month jail sentence hovering over his head after he allegedly refused to hand back high voltage guns his office  confistigated from presidential hopeful Jimi Wanjigi.

Would Kinoti voluntarily walk into Kamiti prison to serve his four-month sentence? I doubt.

But here is the story – Kinoti who told the Star in December 2018 that has 35 bullet wounds and a near-death experience to prove it – was actually meant to follow in the footsteps of brother Paul from Ephesus to Capernaum – but he didn’t.

He instead ‘strayed’ to the Police headquarters where his is currently fighting crime.

“My childhood vocation was to be a priest. I was brought up by a single mother, a very religious person. She used to teach us that we should not worry about where our next meal would come from,” Kinoti said in an interview in 2018.

“During school holidays I would stay at a children’s home. The Sisters of Nazareth took care of me,” the DCI said at the time.

“Because of that influence, I felt that there was nothing I could give in gratitude and chose to become a priest,” he said.

Kinoti would pass his Certificate of Primary Education exam before joining Pope Pius X Seminary – but his dream of becoming a priest remained but just that, a dream.

Indeed – three crucifixes stand out in  his office along Kiambu Road, Nairobi; One on the desk, two others are hugging the wall.

And yes – one of the crucifixes was blessed by Pope John Paul II.

Did you know that he (Kinoti) prays several times a day – and that he never undertakes any mission, large or small, without seeking divine help? Well, now we do.

If not chasing hard-core thugs in Kenya’s underworld – Kinoti would be distributing sacrament and singing Hosanna as he sought to purdon sins, and win souls for God.
