Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are holding a father of three in connection with the brutal killing of his mother and wife in Uasin Gishu County.
The murder suspect, Winfred Kiprotich, aged 34 years, allegedly killed his mother Magdaline Biwott, 64, before turning to his wife Valentine Jepkosgey 30, in an incident that shocked the residents of Tugen in Moiben Sub County.
Angry villagers descended on the suspect with stones and other crude weapons after responding to distress calls from family members of the victims.
Used a machete
The suspect is alleged to have set ablaze the body of his wife, before turning on his mother with a machete.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga confirmed the incident saying that they have launched investigations into the matter.
“We are holding the suspect on suspicion of killing his mother and wife and is detained at Chepkanga police station,” said Gitonga.
Injury to the head
According to Gitonga, the elderly woman’s body had injuries to her head after being hit by a blunt object and was partially burnt.
He said the scene of crime officers moved the bodies to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Gitonga said the suspect will be arraigned before the High Court in Eldoret on Monday to face a murder charge.
