Residents of Mombasa are up in arms after an area chief pinned a notice banning women wearing short skirts and spaghetti tops from visiting her office.
Chief Yasim Omar, herself a woman, insists that women visiting her offices must dress decently listed spaghetti straps, mini-skirts and shorts among other skimpy dresses as some of the dressings that will deny individuals an admission into her office – even as they come seeking government services.
According to Yasim, she had not banned anyone from receiving services, but insisted that it was wrong for women dress indecently, exposing their bodies to the whole world.
Residents of Mombasa have condemned the move by Chief Yasmin arguing that it was discriminatory to demand that people visiting government offices to dress in a certain manner.
