The government through the Ministry of Interior headed by Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has announced that Tuesday, July 20. will be a holiday.
The announcement which has no excited thousands of Kenyans, was made through a Gazette notice no. 7147 dated Friday, July 16.
The notice read in part: “It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Friday, July 20th May, 2021, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Adha.”
Idd-ul-Adha marks the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims, a journey adult Muslims are required to make at least once in their lifetimes provided they can afford it, and are physically fit to journey.
