Woman Carrying Baby Hit By Lorry, Child Miraculously Survives

A woman carrying her baby was on Monday, July 5 hit and killed by a speeding lorry in Ndhiwa town, Homa Bay county.

The 23-year-old woman identified as Sharon Otieno was walking on the sidewalk along the Sori – Rodi Kopany Road road when she was unfortunately hit and killed on the spot.

Sharon was carrying her three-year-old daughter on her chest when she was knocked down from behind.

The impact threw the baby several meters into the air – but sources told Standard that the child survived.

“The impact sent the toddler flying before landing by the roadside,” a witness told Standard.

“She carried the baby on her chest when the truck suddenly knocked and threw her a distance,” added the witness.

The woman sustained injuries to her head following the blow, but the baby sustained only minor bruises.

“She died on the spot, even before we could help her. The baby was taken to the nearby Ndhiwa Sub-county hospital by Good Samaritans,” said the source.

Ndhiwa Sub County Police commander Robert Aboki said the driver of the truck has been arrested.

“The driver drove to Ndhiwa Police Station to escape mob in Ndhiwa town. He reported the matter, and we have detained him,” Aboki said.

“He will be taken to court after completion of our investigations,” Aboki said, and urged motorists to be careful when driving to avoid accidents.

The deceased’s body was moved to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.
