The unit is answerable directly to the office of the Governor, and is headed by a chief officer.
To enhance service the administration undertook to review the Nairobi County Disaster Management Act 2015, and develop the disaster management plan and policy for the city.
The incident comes just two months after two children burnt to death at their home in Gakuyu village, Murang’a County, after a gas cylinder exploded inside their house.
The siblings aged three and four had been left at home alone when they lit a matchbox that led to the fatal explosion.
Area residents unsuccessfully tried to put out the inferno in a bid to save the children, largely due to strong winds that fanned the fire.
