Loss For Raila as Millionaire Supporter Kipkorir Quits Politics

Nairobi lawyer Donald Kipkorir has decided to shake hands with Kenyan politics after terming it ‘not mature enough’.

Kipkori, who is quite liquid, and is popularly known among his friends as Don, broke the news of his planned sabbatical from politics on Twitter on May 24.

“On reflection, I have taken a sabbatical from Kenya’s politics which has no higher ideals, but driven at its default by personal interests with the support of the poor and illiterate base,” noted Korir on twitter.

Korir who has become a permanent correspondent on matters politics on the twitter terrain challenged Kenyan politicians and leaders to reflect on what brand of politics they want.

He challenged leaders to love the country above self, family and tribe if they are to have mature politics.

His announcement – as expected – did not go unnoticed.

Prof Makau Mutua who is based in the US asked the lawyer to reconsider his decision as he was an important member of the ‘winning team’.

He argued that Don leaving politics, could erode the gains made in trying to clean Kenya’s politics.

“You are a striker and can’t take a “sabbatical” from the game at the 80th minute with your team leading 2-1. If you do, the other side’s mediocre 11 will beat your 10-man team,” said Prof Mutua on twitter.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi noted: “Have you lost faith in the project? Did you realise the project is doomed? Have you realised that your candidate has zero chance? Is your candidate even running for office? You saw the light.”

According to him, Kipkorir was opting out of politics after realising that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and his preferred presidential candidate for the 2022 polls were headed nowhere.

If indeed he quits, this will be considered a loss to ODM leader Raila Odinga and the BBI.
