8 People Returning From Christmas Perish in Nissan Shuttle Accident

Just one day after crossing into the new year – eight people have lost their lives after a Nissan Matatu they had boarded crashed into a stationary truck on Sunday, December 2, 2022.

The 8 were confirmed dead following the accident that occurred along Eldoret-Webuye highway in Lugari, Kakamega county.

The morning accident reportedly occurred around 6am – with witnesses saying that the truck had stalled in the middle of the road after developing mechanical problems.

The driver of the 2NK matutu is said to have been speeding before crashing into the truck with vicious force killing many on the spot and leaving others nursing serious injuries.

The passengers who sustained injuries were taken to Lumakanda County hospital, while others were taken to Webuye county hospital.

Lugari sub county commander Mr Bernard  confirmed the incident – and asked motorists to be careful on the road even as they drive back to the various towns after the festive period.

Police took the bodies of the deceased to the Webuye sub county morgue.
