The 9:00 am helicopter accident has killed 10 Kenya Air Force personnel and left 13 injured.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Spokesperson Zipporah Kioko in statement on Thursday 24, stated that the Mi 171E helicopter crash landed around 9am on Thursday.
The chopper crashed in Oltepesi, Kajiado West, during training.
According to Col Kioko the injured were rushed to the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital in Mbgathi, Nairobi. Bodies of the 10 soldiers who died in the crash have been also been taken to Nairobi.
Sources indicated that the helicopter circled in the air for over 20 minutes as those on board attempted to jump out.
Quoting a police officer who did not wish to be named, Bloomberg media, however, reported that 17 soldiers had died in the accident while 6 sustained injuries and were rescued to hospital.
Police sources stated that the helicopter was carrying 23 soldiers when it crashed.
